Description

Crispy, golden wontons filled with a creamy and flavorful cream cheese filling, perfect as an appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  2. Place a wonton wrapper on a flat surface and spoon about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture into the center.
  3. Brush the edges of the wrapper with the beaten egg and fold the wonton in half to create a triangle. Press the edges to seal tightly. You can also fold the edges in to form a purse shape if desired.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Carefully fry the wontons in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve warm with sweet chili sauce or your preferred dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, try baking the wontons at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  • Feel free to add cooked crab, shrimp, or vegetables to the cream cheese filling for variation.
  • Make sure to seal the edges of the wonton wrappers well to prevent the filling from leaking during frying.
