- 12 wonton wrappers
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth and well combined.
- Place a wonton wrapper on a flat surface and spoon about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture into the center.
- Brush the edges of the wrapper with the beaten egg and fold the wonton in half to create a triangle. Press the edges to seal tightly. You can also fold the edges in to form a purse shape if desired.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully fry the wontons in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm with sweet chili sauce or your preferred dipping sauce.
Notes
- For a lighter version, try baking the wontons at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
- Feel free to add cooked crab, shrimp, or vegetables to the cream cheese filling for variation.
- Make sure to seal the edges of the wonton wrappers well to prevent the filling from leaking during frying.
