Description

Crispy cream cheese wontons are a delicious appetizer made with a creamy filling wrapped in a crunchy wonton shell and deep-fried to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp sugar
  • 20 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine cream cheese, green onions, garlic, salt, and sugar until smooth.
  2. Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of filling into the center.
  3. Brush the edges with beaten egg and fold into a triangle, pressing to seal. Optionally bring corners together and seal with egg to form a pouch shape.
  4. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
  5. Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry wontons in batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown, turning as needed.
  7. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with sweet and sour sauce or dipping sauce of choice.

Notes

  • Ensure the edges are well sealed to prevent leaking during frying.
  • You can freeze uncooked wontons and fry them straight from the freezer.
  • Try adding crab meat or chopped shrimp for variation.
