Description

Cream Cheese Wontons are a crispy, creamy appetizer made with seasoned cream cheese wrapped in wonton wrappers and fried to golden perfection. A restaurant-style treat that’s easy to make at home.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, mix cream cheese, green onion, garlic powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Add about 1 teaspoon of filling to the center.
  3. Brush edges with beaten egg, then fold and seal the wonton into a triangle or a pouch, pressing out air and sealing tightly.
  4. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
  5. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry wontons in batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot with dipping sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Wontons can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to fry.
  • Air fryer or oven-baked versions are possible for a lighter option.
  • Add a pinch of sugar or minced crab meat for variation.
