Description

Cowboy Mushrooms are a savory, hearty dish featuring sautéed mushrooms with garlic, butter, and herbs. Perfect as a side or topping for steaks, burgers, or even served on toast.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb cremini or button mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • Optional: 1 tbsp whiskey or bourbon for added flavor

Instructions

  1. Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to brown and release moisture.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the mushrooms are well-coated and tender.
  5. If using whiskey or bourbon, add it now and cook for another 1-2 minutes to let the alcohol evaporate and the flavors meld.
  6. Remove from heat and sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Use a mix of mushroom varieties for a deeper flavor.
  • Great as a side dish, burger topping, or over mashed potatoes.
  • To make it vegan, substitute butter with plant-based butter.
