Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup brewed strong coffee or 2 shots of espresso
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 1 tablespoon water (for cornstarch slurry, optional)
Instructions
- Brew strong coffee or espresso and set aside.
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine coffee and brown sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
- Add heavy cream and butter. Continue stirring until butter melts and the mixture is smooth.
- Simmer gently for 5–7 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
- If desired, mix cornstarch with water and stir into the sauce. Cook for an additional 1–2 minutes.
- Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
- Let the sauce cool slightly before serving or transferring to a jar.
Notes
- Add bourbon or whiskey for a boozy version.
- Substitute coconut cream for a dairy-free option.
- Add cinnamon or nutmeg for added warmth.
- Use maple syrup instead of brown sugar for a different flavor.
