Description

A rich, creamy, and elegant dessert made with chocolate, eggs, and cream. Classic chocolate mousse is light yet indulgent, perfect for special occasions or a luxurious treat.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 6 oz (170g) semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. Whisk the egg yolks into the cooled chocolate mixture one at a time until fully combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
  4. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  5. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture.
  6. Carefully fold in the beaten egg whites until no white streaks remain.
  7. Spoon the mousse into serving cups or bowls and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
  8. Optional: Garnish with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries before serving.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor.
  • Make sure the melted chocolate has cooled slightly before adding the egg yolks to avoid scrambling.
  • The mousse can be made a day in advance and stored in the fridge.
