Description
Churros are a classic Spanish and Mexican treat made from fried dough, coated in cinnamon sugar, and served with chocolate sauce or dulce de leche.

- 1 cup water
- 2 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine water, sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons oil. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
- Stir in flour until a smooth dough forms. Let cool slightly.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Spoon the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
- Pipe 4–6-inch strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting with scissors if needed. Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- In a shallow bowl, mix the 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll warm churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.
- Serve immediately, optionally with chocolate dipping sauce.
Notes
- Make sure oil stays at the right temperature for even frying.
- Serve with chocolate sauce or dulce de leche for dipping.
- Dough can be made in advance and kept refrigerated for a few hours before frying.
