Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake infused with zesty orange flavor, topped with a luscious chocolate ganache – perfect for citrus and chocolate lovers.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box: eggs, oil, water)
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 package (3.4 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup orange marmalade
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp orange zest (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions, substituting orange juice for the water.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for the time specified on the box, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Then, using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes evenly across the surface of the cake.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together the instant pudding mix and milk until smooth. Pour it over the cake, making sure it fills the holes. Spread any excess evenly on top.
  6. Gently warm the orange marmalade and spread it over the pudding layer.
  7. To make the ganache, heat the heavy cream until just boiling, then pour it over the chocolate chips. Let sit for 1-2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
  8. Pour the ganache over the cake and spread evenly. Optionally, sprinkle with orange zest.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to set.

Notes

  • For a stronger orange flavor, add a few drops of orange extract to the cake batter or ganache.
  • Decorate with candied orange slices for an elegant touch.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
