Description

This rich and creamy chocolate buttercream frosting comes together in just 6 minutes, making it perfect for topping cakes, cupcakes, or brownies with indulgent chocolate flavor.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or milk

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat softened butter with a mixer on medium speed until creamy and smooth, about 1 minute.
  2. Add powdered sugar and cocoa powder gradually, mixing on low speed until combined.
  3. Add salt and vanilla extract, then increase to medium-high speed and beat for 1–2 minutes.
  4. Slowly add heavy cream or milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
  5. Beat for another 1–2 minutes until light and fluffy. Use immediately or store in the fridge.

Notes

  • Use high-quality cocoa powder for best flavor.
  • If frosting is too thick, add more cream 1 tsp at a time. If too thin, add more powdered sugar.
  • Can be made ahead and stored in the fridge up to 5 days. Bring to room temp and re-whip before using.
