- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup heavy cream or milk
Instructions
- In a large bowl, beat softened butter with a mixer on medium speed until creamy and smooth, about 1 minute.
- Add powdered sugar and cocoa powder gradually, mixing on low speed until combined.
- Add salt and vanilla extract, then increase to medium-high speed and beat for 1–2 minutes.
- Slowly add heavy cream or milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
- Beat for another 1–2 minutes until light and fluffy. Use immediately or store in the fridge.
Notes
- Use high-quality cocoa powder for best flavor.
- If frosting is too thick, add more cream 1 tsp at a time. If too thin, add more powdered sugar.
- Can be made ahead and stored in the fridge up to 5 days. Bring to room temp and re-whip before using.
