Description
Chicken Chow Mein is a popular Chinese takeout dish made with stir-fried noodles, tender chicken, crisp vegetables, and the ultimate savory-sweet chow mein sauce. It’s quick, easy, and better than takeout!
Ingredients
- 8 oz chow mein noodles
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce (for marinating chicken)
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (for marinating chicken)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- 1 cup julienned carrots
- 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers
- 3 green onions, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- For the sauce:
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
Instructions
- Cook chow mein noodles according to package instructions, drain, and set aside.
- In a bowl, mix sliced chicken with 2 tbsp soy sauce and 1 tbsp cornstarch. Let marinate for 10 minutes.
- In a small bowl, whisk together all sauce ingredients and set aside.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken and stir-fry until cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- Add remaining 1 tbsp oil to the pan. Add garlic, ginger, and vegetables. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.
- Return chicken to the pan. Add cooked noodles and pour sauce over the top.
- Toss everything together until evenly coated and heated through.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use pre-cut stir-fry vegetable mix for convenience.
- Add chili flakes or sriracha for heat.
- Can substitute chicken with shrimp or tofu.
