- 4 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Steam or blanch broccoli florets until tender but still bright green, about 5-6 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and whisk for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
- Gradually add milk while whisking continuously until the sauce thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
- Combine the cooked broccoli with the cheese sauce and mix well.
- Serve hot as a side dish.
Notes
- You can use frozen broccoli if fresh is not available.
- Add a pinch of nutmeg for extra flavor in the cheese sauce.
- Top with breadcrumbs and bake for a crispy finish.
