Description

Carne Asada Tacos are a flavorful Mexican dish made with grilled marinated steak, served in warm tortillas and topped with fresh garnishes.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs flank or skirt steak
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 small corn tortillas
  • 1/2 cup diced white onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges
  • Salsa or hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine orange juice, lime juice, olive oil, garlic, cilantro, jalapeño, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper to make the marinade.
  2. Place the steak in a resealable bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, preferably 4 hours.
  3. Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Remove steak from marinade and grill for 4-5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
  4. Remove steak from heat and let rest for 5 minutes. Slice thinly against the grain.
  5. Warm the tortillas on the grill or stovetop.
  6. Assemble tacos by placing steak slices on tortillas and topping with diced onion, chopped cilantro, and a squeeze of lime juice. Add salsa or hot sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Marinating the steak longer enhances the flavor.
  • Use skirt or flank steak for best results.
  • Warm tortillas help prevent them from breaking.
