Ingredients
For the Carne Asada:
-
1 lb flank or skirt steak
-
2 tbsp olive oil
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1/4 cup orange juice
-
2 tbsp lime juice
-
1 tbsp soy sauce
-
1 tbsp vinegar (white or apple cider)
-
1 tsp cumin
-
1 tsp chili powder
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Fries:
-
1 (28 oz) bag frozen French fries, or homemade fries
-
1 tbsp taco seasoning (optional)
Toppings:
-
1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
-
1/4 cup sour cream
-
1/4 cup guacamole
-
1/4 cup pico de gallo or salsa
-
2 tbsp chopped cilantro
-
1 sliced jalapeño (optional)
Instructions
-
Marinate the steak: In a bowl, mix olive oil, garlic, orange juice, lime juice, soy sauce, vinegar, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Add the steak, cover, and marinate for at least 1 hour (or overnight in the fridge).
-
Cook the fries: Bake or air fry the French fries according to package instructions until crispy. If using homemade fries, bake at 425°F for 25–30 minutes. Toss with taco seasoning if desired.
-
Grill the steak: Heat a grill or stovetop pan over high heat. Cook the steak for about 4–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness. Let rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
-
Assemble: Arrange fries on a large serving platter or sheet pan. Top with cheese and warm in the oven for a few minutes until cheese melts.
-
Top and serve: Add sliced carne asada, then pile on sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, cilantro, and jalapeños. Serve right away!
Notes
-
Short on time? Use leftover steak or rotisserie chicken as a quick substitute.
-
You can swap out toppings based on preference—try adding queso, black beans, or pickled onions.
-
For crispier fries, use an air fryer!
