Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup whole milk, lukewarm
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and divided (for dough and brushing)
- 2 large eggs, beaten
Instructions
- Warm milk until lukewarm (not hot). Sprinkle yeast and a pinch of sugar on top and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
- Add yeast mixture, beaten eggs, and 1/4 cup melted butter to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and roll into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Brush entire surface generously with remaining melted butter.
- Cut dough into strips, stack them, then cut into squares.
- Place stacks cut-side up in a greased muffin tin or baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Brush with more melted butter while warm and serve.
Notes
- Add chopped herbs like rosemary or chives to the butter for a savory twist.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese between layers for cheesy rolls.
- Use garlic butter for extra flavor.
