Description

Soft, tender dinner rolls with layers of buttery goodness that pull apart beautifully. Perfect for holidays, Sunday dinners, or any special occasion when you want a melt-in-your-mouth bread basket!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup whole milk, lukewarm
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and divided (for dough and brushing)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten

Instructions

  1. Warm milk until lukewarm (not hot). Sprinkle yeast and a pinch of sugar on top and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
  3. Add yeast mixture, beaten eggs, and 1/4 cup melted butter to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down dough and roll into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Brush entire surface generously with remaining melted butter.
  7. Cut dough into strips, stack them, then cut into squares.
  8. Place stacks cut-side up in a greased muffin tin or baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Brush with more melted butter while warm and serve.

Notes

  • Add chopped herbs like rosemary or chives to the butter for a savory twist.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese between layers for cheesy rolls.
  • Use garlic butter for extra flavor.
