Description

These soft, fluffy bunny-shaped buns are a fun and festive treat that kids and adults will love. Slightly sweet and buttery, they’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an Easter basket. You can enjoy them plain, with a bit of butter, or filled with jam or Nutella!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 large egg

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)

  • 1 egg yolk (for egg wash)

  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)

  • Raisins or chocolate chips (for eyes)

Instructions

  • Activate yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.

  • Make the dough: Stir in melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.

  • Knead the dough: Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  • First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  • Shape the bunnies: Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball (the bunny body). Use small bits of dough to form ears and tails, pinching them onto the body. Press in raisins or chocolate chips for eyes.

  • Second rise: Place shaped bunnies on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover loosely with a towel and let rise for 30 minutes.

  • Preheat and egg wash: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix egg yolk and 1 tablespoon milk for egg wash, and brush over the buns.

  • Bake: Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown.

  • Cool and enjoy: Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Add a touch of vanilla or orange zest to the dough for extra flavor.

  • You can stuff the buns with jam or Nutella before shaping for a sweet surprise inside.

  • Use kitchen scissors to cut the ears if you want a pointier bunny look.
