Ingredients
-
1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
-
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
-
1/4 cup granulated sugar
-
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
-
1 large egg
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
3 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
-
1 egg yolk (for egg wash)
-
1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
-
Raisins or chocolate chips (for eyes)
Instructions
-
Activate yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
-
Make the dough: Stir in melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
-
Knead the dough: Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
-
First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
-
Shape the bunnies: Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball (the bunny body). Use small bits of dough to form ears and tails, pinching them onto the body. Press in raisins or chocolate chips for eyes.
-
Second rise: Place shaped bunnies on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover loosely with a towel and let rise for 30 minutes.
-
Preheat and egg wash: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix egg yolk and 1 tablespoon milk for egg wash, and brush over the buns.
-
Bake: Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown.
-
Cool and enjoy: Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
-
Add a touch of vanilla or orange zest to the dough for extra flavor.
-
You can stuff the buns with jam or Nutella before shaping for a sweet surprise inside.
-
Use kitchen scissors to cut the ears if you want a pointier bunny look.
