Ingredients
-
1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
-
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
-
1/4 cup granulated sugar
-
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1 large egg
-
3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
-
Raisins or mini chocolate chips (for eyes)
-
1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
Instructions
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
-
Add the sugar, melted butter, salt, and egg. Mix until combined.
-
Gradually add in the flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
-
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
-
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
-
Punch down the dough and divide it into about 16 pieces.
-
Shape each piece into a ball for the body. Use smaller bits of dough to form ears and tails.
-
Use raisins or mini chocolate chips to make eyes. Press them gently into the dough.
-
Place the shaped buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Brush the buns with the beaten egg.
-
Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown.
-
Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
-
You can flavor the dough with a bit of orange zest or cinnamon for a twist.
-
These buns freeze well—just reheat before serving.
-
Let kids help shape the bunnies for a fun family activity!
