Scale
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter
- 1 1/4 cups (250g) granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar
- 3/4 cup (64g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup (64g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the butter turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma. Remove from heat.
- Stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, and salt into the browned butter until well combined.
- Add the vanilla extract and mix. Let the mixture cool for a few minutes before adding the eggs.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the batter becomes glossy and thick.
- Stir in the flour and baking powder until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
- Do not overbake to keep the brownies fudgy.
- Brown butter can burn quickly—watch closely while cooking.
- Adding chocolate chips is optional but enhances the gooey texture.
