Description

Rich and fudgy brownies made with nutty brown butter for an extra depth of flavor.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 cups (250g) granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup (64g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup (64g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the butter turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma. Remove from heat.
  3. Stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, and salt into the browned butter until well combined.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and mix. Let the mixture cool for a few minutes before adding the eggs.
  5. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the batter becomes glossy and thick.
  6. Stir in the flour and baking powder until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Do not overbake to keep the brownies fudgy.
  • Brown butter can burn quickly—watch closely while cooking.
  • Adding chocolate chips is optional but enhances the gooey texture.
