Description

These braided cinnamon rolls elevate the classic favorite with a visually striking twist and layers of cinnamon-sugar filling. Soft, fluffy, and rich in warm spice, they’re perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (plus extra for filling)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 23 tbsp milk or cream (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk and 1/4 cup butter together until butter melts. Let it cool slightly.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
  3. Add warm milk mixture, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  7. Roll dough into a rectangle, spread with softened butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Roll up tightly from the long edge. Slice roll in half lengthwise to expose layers.
  9. Braid the two halves with cut sides up and coil into a spiral.
  10. Place in a greased or parchment-lined baking pan. Let rise for 30–45 minutes.
  11. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Mix powdered sugar with milk or cream to make a glaze and drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the filling for texture.
  • Mix cardamom with cinnamon for a richer spice blend.
  • Use cream cheese glaze for a richer topping.
  • Incorporate raisins or dates for added sweetness.
