Description
A delightful and elegant dessert featuring a sweet apple filling encased in a flaky, golden puff pastry braid.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 2 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, combine sliced apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and lemon juice. Toss to coat evenly.
- Unroll the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Place the apple mixture down the center third of the pastry.
- Cut slits on the two sides of the pastry at a slight diagonal, about 1 inch apart, creating strips for braiding.
- Fold the strips over the apple filling, alternating sides to form a braid.
- Transfer the braid to the prepared baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg and milk together. Brush the mixture over the top of the braid.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffy.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
Notes
- You can add a handful of chopped nuts or raisins to the apple filling for extra texture.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for a decadent treat.
- Make sure the puff pastry is fully thawed before working with it to avoid cracks.
