Description

Braided Apple Puff Pastry is a stunning yet easy dessert made with flaky pastry, spiced apple filling, and a sweet glaze. Perfect for holidays, brunches, or when you need a quick crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 12 tsp milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix sliced apples with brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Set aside.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out puff pastry slightly and transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Cut slits along both long sides of the pastry (about 1 inch apart), leaving the center third intact for the filling.
  5. Spoon apple mixture down the center of the pastry.
  6. Fold the slits over the filling in a criss-cross pattern, tucking ends underneath to seal.
  7. Whisk together egg and water, then brush over the pastry.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Cool slightly, then mix powdered sugar and milk to make a glaze. Drizzle over the pastry before serving.

Notes

  • Use store-bought pie filling for an even quicker version.
  • Add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts for extra texture.
  • Best served warm but also delicious at room temperature.
