Description

Quick, smoky blistered shishito peppers finished with flaky salt and a squeeze of citrus. An easy, shareable appetizer that’s ready in minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz fresh shishito peppers
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp flaky sea salt, or to taste
  • Fresh lemon or lime wedges, for serving
  • Optional dipping sauce (like garlic aioli, spicy mayo, or soy sauce)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large cast iron skillet or heavy pan over medium-high heat until very hot.
  2. In a bowl, toss the shishito peppers with a drizzle of oil to coat evenly.
  3. Add the peppers to the hot skillet in a single layer. Let them cook undisturbed for 1-2 minutes until they begin to blister.
  4. Use tongs to turn the peppers occasionally until they are evenly charred and tender, about 5-7 minutes total.
  5. Remove from heat and sprinkle generously with flaky sea salt.
  6. Serve immediately with fresh lemon or lime wedges for squeezing over the top and your favorite dipping sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for extra flavor.
  • Drizzle with a bit of soy sauce and extra sesame oil for an Asian twist.
  • Serve with garlic aioli or spicy mayo for a creamy dip.
  • Add a pinch of smoked paprika or chili flakes for a smoky-spicy kick.
