1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

3/4 cup ketchup
-
1 tablespoon tomato paste
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
-
1 tablespoon brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon chili powder
-
Salt and black pepper, to taste

-
Add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
-
Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
-
Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
-
Simmer the mixture over low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
-
Toast the hamburger buns if desired.
-
Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the buns and add optional toppings if using. Serve warm.
Notes
-
You can swap ground beef for ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter or vegetarian version.
-
This mixture freezes well—store in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
-
For extra flavor, toast the buns with a little butter on a skillet.
