Description

Beef Tips and Rice is a hearty and comforting dish made with tender beef simmered in a savory gravy and served over fluffy rice—perfect for a satisfying dinner.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds beef stew meat or sirloin tips, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • Cooked white rice, for serving
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. Add beef tips and sear on all sides until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté onion until soft, about 4-5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Return the beef to the skillet. Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until beef is tender.
  6. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and cold water until smooth. Stir into the beef mixture and cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  7. Serve hot over cooked white rice and garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use a tougher cut like chuck for slow simmering, or sirloin for a quicker cook.
  • For added richness, stir in a tablespoon of butter at the end.
  • Leftovers store well and taste even better the next day.
