Description

A wholesome and easy-to-make dish with crispy skins and soft, naturally sweet interiors—perfect as a nutritious side or a loaded main course.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium sweet potatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Butter (optional, for topping)
  • Ground black pepper (optional, for topping)
  • Cinnamon or brown sugar (optional, for a sweet twist)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
  2. Scrub sweet potatoes under running water and pat dry.
  3. Poke several holes in each sweet potato with a fork to allow steam to escape.
  4. Rub each potato with olive oil and sprinkle lightly with salt.
  5. Place sweet potatoes on the baking sheet and bake for 45–60 minutes until tender and easily pierced with a fork.
  6. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  7. Slice open and top with butter, pepper, or sweet/savory toppings of choice.

Notes

  • For a dessert-style treat, top with marshmallows and cinnamon.
  • For a Tex-Mex twist, add black beans, salsa, and avocado.
  • Try drizzling tahini and sprinkling sesame seeds for Middle Eastern flavor.
  • Sautéed spinach and garlic can be added for a savory filling.
