Description

Baked Crunchy Hot Honey Chicken is a spicy-sweet twist on classic fried chicken, featuring a crispy oven-baked coating and a drizzle of hot honey for the perfect kick.


Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups cornflakes, crushed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 23 tsp hot sauce (like Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a wire rack.
  2. In a bowl, mix buttermilk with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Add chicken and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for best flavor.
  3. In another bowl, combine crushed cornflakes, breadcrumbs, and olive oil or melted butter.
  4. Remove chicken from marinade and coat each piece in the cornflake mixture, pressing to adhere.
  5. Place coated chicken on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and cooked through (internal temp 165°F).
  6. While chicken bakes, heat honey and hot sauce in a small saucepan over low heat until warm and well combined.
  7. Drizzle hot honey over the baked chicken right before serving. Garnish with red pepper flakes if desired.

  • Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch if preferred.
