Description

Authentic Greek Chicken Souvlaki is a traditional Greek dish featuring marinated grilled chicken skewers bursting with Mediterranean flavors, perfect for a healthy and satisfying meal.


Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Wooden or metal skewers

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, red wine vinegar, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper to make the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and mix well to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  3. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes before grilling.
  4. Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the skewers.
  5. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  6. Grill the skewers for about 10–12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and has nice grill marks.
  7. Serve hot with pita bread, tzatziki sauce, and your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Marinating overnight enhances the flavor.
  • Use thighs for juicier souvlaki.
  • Can also be cooked under a broiler if a grill is not available.
