Description

A refreshing and visually stunning layered dessert made with fresh berries, soft cake, creamy pudding, and fluffy whipped cream—perfect for summer gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Pound cake or sponge cake, cubed
  • Vanilla pudding or custard
  • Whipped cream
  • Strawberries, sliced
  • Blueberries
  • Raspberries
  • Blackberries
  • Sugar
  • Lemon juice
  • Vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry all the berries. Slice the strawberries if they are large.
  2. In a bowl, combine the berries with a bit of sugar and lemon juice. Let them sit for about 15 minutes to macerate.
  3. Cut the cake into cubes.
  4. In a trifle dish or large glass bowl, start layering: cake cubes, vanilla pudding or custard, whipped cream, then mixed berries.
  5. Repeat the layers until the dish is full, ending with berries and a dollop of whipped cream on top.
  6. Chill the trifle for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Swap vanilla pudding for lemon or chocolate pudding for a different flavor.
  • Use angel food cake or ladyfingers as a cake alternative.
  • For an adult version, add a splash of berry liqueur to the berries.
  • Add crushed cookies or granola for a crunchy twist.
  • Mascarpone cheese can be added for extra richness.
