Description

A quick and flavorful Asian-inspired dish made with ground beef, noodles, and a savory Mongolian-style sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 8 oz lo mein noodles or spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, cornstarch, and water. Set aside.
  3. In a large skillet or wok, heat sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add garlic and ginger, sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  5. Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet with the beef. Stir to combine and cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss to coat evenly with the sauce.
  7. Stir in green onions and red pepper flakes, if using. Cook for an additional minute.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired and serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • Add vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, or broccoli for extra nutrition.
  • Use tamari instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free version.
